Tank Storage Association publishes 2021 Annual Review of the bulk liquid storage sector

The bulk liquid storage sector contributed £4.3bn in revenue to the UK economy in 2020, according to The Tank Storage Association’s 2021 Annual Review.

The sixth edition of the TSA’s Annual Review contains key data and information on terminals, process safety, occupational health and safety as well the industry’s contribution to the UK economy.

Peter Davidson, executive director of the TSA, said: “The review continues to provide a comprehensive and timely insight into the bulk liquid storage sector in the UK.”

In addition to “valuable industry data and information”, Mr Davidson explained how this year’s report “shines a light on the sector’s commitment to attract, develop and retain the next generation of talent”.

“As we look ahead, it is clear to us that investing in the next generation today will ensure our sector continues to go from strength to strength.”

Key findings from the report, conclude:

  • The tank storage sector is the pulse of our day-today life, providing an essential link in the supply chain for a large variety of liquid products.
  • Terminals are central to the UK economy, supporting our domestic commerce in bulk liquid products and connecting it with overseas markets.
  • The bulk liquid storage sector supports over 4,000 direct UK jobs and draws on the expertise and talent of a highly skilled, innovative and resourceful workforce.
  • Career prospects in the sector are expanding and new and exciting opportunities are opening up.

Inspiring the next generation of talent

Reynolds Training Services’ managing director, John Reynolds, described the report as a “mirror to invaluable work” the bulk liquid storage sector is playing in progressing health, safety, environmental and technical matters.

“What is really fantastic,” continued Mr Reynolds, “is how the TSA’s report also underscores the fantastic work industry is doing to attract, develop and retain the next generation of talent.”

Reflecting on Reynolds Training Services’ own Bulk Liquid Storage Apprenticeships, he added: “I care passionately about the future welfare of this sector. So it is wonderful to see our industry collectively thinking about the next generation of talent.”
