Health and safety tip: how do I report an incident?

The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013, often known as RIDDOR, regulates the statutory obligation to report deaths, injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrences. This includes near misses.

If an incident has happened at your workplace:

  • It can be reported online or;
  • Via a telephone service for reporting fatal and major injuries only

Call the Incident Contact Centre on 0845 300 9923 – opening hours Monday to Friday 8.30 am to 5 pm. Alternatively, you can visit hse.gov.uk for more information on reporting incidents.

  • Deaths and injuries caused by workplace accidents
  • Occupational
  • Occupational diseases
  • Carcinogens mutagens and biological agents
  • Specified injuries to workers
  • Dangerous occurrences
  • Gas incidents

Who should I report to?

  • An employer
  • Self-employed
  • A member of the public, employee, injured person or their representative
  • A gas supplier
  • A gas engineer
  • Working offshore
