Focussed on integrating safety and health principles throughout your entire organisation, IOSH’s Managing Safely course improves your reputation and increases productivity within your supply chain.

The course provides managers and supervisors with comprehensive knowledge of everyone’s safety and health responsibilities in the workplace. It also shows how they can effectively influence, control and oversee risk management, with the goal of improving safety and health issues for all.

Who is this course for?
Managers, Supervisors and anyone with Health & Safety management responsibilities.

Duration:
This course takes place over a 3 day period, with an exam on the third and final day. Learners are also required to complete a Risk Assessment which must meet specific criteria.

None

Unlike other health & safety courses, Managing Safely offers practical step-by-step guidance with a clear-eyed business focus that is practical and hands-on whilst being free of complex jargon. The course is designed to engage and inspire.

Learners will be assessed in two ways:

Knowledge and comprehension

Learners will choose one of the four standard assessments, conducted under exam conditions. Each assessment consists of 30 questions in various formats, and is to be completed within 45 minutes. There is a maximum of 60 marks, and the minimum pass score is 36.

Practical application of learning

Learners will conduct a workplace risk assessment using either the standard IOSH form or their own company form. This must be completed within two weeks of finishing the course. The project will be evaluated based on the IOSH criteria and carries a maximum of 38 marks.

  • Outline the primary reasons for managing safety and health in the workplace.
  • Become familiar with the key terms relating to safety and health.
  • Recognise how the law can impact safety and health in the workplace.
  • Explain methods for assessing, reducing and controlling risks in the workplace.
  • Identify workplace hazards and risks, along with their consequences and how to manage them.
  • Summarise the characteristics and advantages of an efficient health and safety management system.
  • Describe the principles that form the foundation for reliable health and safety performance.

This course can be considered a first step in a career in health and safety. It gives a valuable overview, and is a sound basis for further professional study.
