COSHH is the law that requires employers to control substances that are hazardous to health. Most businesses use substances, or products that are mixtures of substances. Some processes create substances. These could cause harm to employees, contractors, and other people.
Sometimes substances are easily recognised as harmful. Common substances such as paint, bleach or dust from natural materials may also be harmful.
Who is this course for? Anyone in a managerial or supervisory role, or with ambitions towards such roles.

Prerequisites:
To provide the learner/s with sufficient knowledge and understanding of the health and safety risks involved with working with hazardous substances. This will include guidance on how to undertake a COSHH assessment (both substance and activity) by identifying the hazard/s evaluating the risk/s and implementing the control measures required.
- Recognise and identify substances hazardous to health, common hazardous substances, hazardous substances presence / locations, ill-health from hazardous substances, statistics, benefits of COSHH, and risk assessment
- Define the relevant regulations, guidance, and industry best practice
- Identify health hazards, occupational risks, routes of entry, effects of hazardous substances to health, and RIDDOR
- Understand substance labelling, safety data sheets (SDS), emergency procedures, dangerous substances, flammable substances, carcinogens, eco-toxic substances, oxidisers, etc.…
- Perform both substance and activity COSHH risk assessments, identify and implementing suitable and sufficient controls and safe systems of work
