The Tank Storage Association has welcomed the Government’s Transport Decarbonisation Plan, saying industry is ready to “work together” in the drive to meet the UK’s net-zero goals.
In a written statement to Parliament, the Government said the plan would create economic growth, new industries and jobs and help the nation build back better and greener.
Commenting on the publication of the Transport Decarbonisation Plan, Peter Davidson, executive director of the Tank Storage Association, said: “We welcome the publication of the plan and stand ready to work in partnership with Government to ensure that our sector can fully support and lead on the innovations that will be necessary to meet the UK’s net-zero goals.”
“TSA members are a critical part of the supply chain ensuring existing and future products reach their customers. While the bulk liquid storage sector and associated logistics are already active in a number of areas that will drive success going forward, ultimately, investment and collaboration with Government and all partners will be pivotal as the UK transitions to a decarbonised economy.”
Transport is the largest contributor to UK greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), with road transport alone accounting for almost a quarter of our total emissions in 2019.
In a written statement, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps, said: “We must deliver a step change in the breadth and scale of our ambition to reduce transport’s GHG emissions to reach net zero.”
Committed to working together
John Reynolds, managing director of industrial safety provider, Reynolds Training Services, embraced the “high ambition” laid down in the Transport Decarbonisation Plan
“The transport sector and wider industries need to continue to adapt to ensure that we strive to meet the challenges that decarbonisation brings.”
Reynolds Training Services, he added, will “proactively support and adapt training” to ensure we maintain a safe working environment for all. “We look forward to continuing our own strong association with the TSA particularly in these leading aspects.”
The Government’s latest announcement follows March 2020’s, Decarbonising Transport: Setting The Challenge plan, which outlined a commitment to deliver transport’s contribution to carbon budgets to net zero across all forms of transport.
