Permit to work petroleum training courses are integral to the safe operation of high hazard sites.
This view is shared by the Health and Safety Executive. A recent HSE survey revealed one third of all accidents in the chemical industry are maintenance related – the largest single cause being a deficiency in their permit to work systems.
This underscores the need for contractors entering your site to be operationally competent in all tasks they carry out.
You’d think twice about inviting a plumber into your home who wasn’t Gas Safe Registered, so surely the same applies to workers on your site – you should always be able to expect a certain level of competency from them.
At RTS, we’ve just undertaken some work with Cogent to develop introductory petroleum training courses for contractors to expand their knowledge and understanding of the downstream environment.
