GQA Level 3 Diploma in Downstream Field Operations provides recognition of the skills and knowledge of individuals have acquired working in Downstream Field Operations, within refineries, storage terminals and process operations, and helps them use these skills more effectively to further their career.

The Diploma requires learners to complete sixteen mandatory units. Learners may then go on to complete four additional units from the list detailed below. Although, these additional units are not required to complete the qualification.

Operators who want to progress to Team Leader or Management roles.

DO(F) 4k – How to Start Up Equipment
DO(F) 4c – Start Up Equipment 
DO(F) 5k – How to Monitor and Maintain Process and Equipment Conditions
DO(F) 5c – Monitor and Maintain Process and Equipment Conditions
DO(F) 6k – How to Handle Non-routine Information on Plant Condition
DO(F) 6c – Handle Non-routine Information on Plant Condition
DO(F) 7k – How to Shut Down Equipment
DO(F) 7c – Shut Down Equipment
DO(F) 8k – How to Prepare for Maintenance
DO(F) 8c – Prepare for Maintenance

Learners may then go on to complete four additional units form:

DO(F) 10k – How to Carry Out Maintenance Within Agreed Scope of Authority
DO(F) 10c – Carry Out Maintenance Within Agreed Scope of Authority
DO(F) 11k – How to Provide Samples For Analysis
DO(F) 11c – Provide Samples For Analysis
DO(F) 12k – How to Analyse Samples
DO(F) 12c – Analyse Samples
DO(F) 13k – How to Provide On-plant Instruction
DO(F) 13c – Provide On-plant Instruction

Assessment includes the following methods (although observation of performance in the work environment is not required for learners only undertaking the knowledge units):

❖ Examining products of work
❖ Questioning the learner
❖ Discussing with the learner
❖ Use of others (witness testimony)
❖ Looking at learner statements
❖ Recognising prior learning
