This GQA Level 5 Certificate in the Principles of Process Safety Management, from Reynolds Training, provides knowledge and skills for learners who have managerial and/or supervisory operational and maintenance responsibilities over Process Safety Management (PSM).

This qualification demonstrates the importance of PSM to the high hazard industries and requires the learner to prove the appropriate level of knowledge and understanding vital for managing and supervising that.

Who is this course for?
Anyone working at a supervisory or managerial level in the high hazard industry who has operational and maintenance responsibilities for Process Safety Management

Duration:
The course consists of a two-day workshop plus one site visit/assessment and self-study time.

❖ PPSM5 1k – Understand the Principles of Process Safety Management and Effective Implementation
❖ PPSM5 1c – Lead in Effective Process Safety Management
❖ PPSM5 2c – Evaluate and Communicate Process Safety Hazards
❖ PPSM5 3c – Evaluate and Profile Risk/s in Process Safety Management
❖ PPSM5 4c – Evaluate and Implement Process Safety Barriers
❖ PPSM5 5c – Manage Accident Investigation and the Improvement of Process Safety
❖ PPSM5 6c – Understand how to comply with the relevant Regulations, Industry Standards and Management Requirements for Process Safety.

Assessment includes the following methods (although observation of performance in the work environment is not required for learners only undertaking the knowledge units):

❖ Observation of performance in the work environment
❖ Examining products of work
❖ Questioning the learner
❖ Discussing with the learner
❖ Use of others (witness testimony)
❖ Looking at learner statements
❖ Recognising prior learning

❖ Understand the impact of ineffective Process Safety Management
❖ Understand the role of the competent authority in high hazard industries
❖ Understand the principles of leadership in effective PSM
❖ Understand how to take responsibility for communicating the principles of effective PSM
❖ Understand how to identify the major accident hazards
❖ Understand how to evaluate, interpret and profile risk/s associated with the major accident hazards
❖ Understand how to manage an action plan
❖ Understand how to implement process safety barriers and realise the concept of inherent safety
❖ Understand how to investigate PSM systems and processes
❖ Understand the associated regulations, systems and industry models associated with effective PSM
❖ Understand how and why continuous improvement is required for effective PSM
❖ Understand how to produce a process safety management action plan

TRAINING FOR A LIFE-LONG CAREER

This qualification is part of a suite of bespoke qualifications designed to meet an important need for everyone from Level 2 Operatives to Level 5 Management. The suite contains an Award, 2 Certificates and a Diploma; learners may progress onto other qualifications within this suite.
