During the course, learners will gain an understanding of HAZOP as a systematic method to identify operating problems and the fundamental roles embedded within the process.
Initially developed to analyse chemical process systems and mining operation process, HAZOP now covers many types of systems and complex operations in high hazard industries and sectors. It can be applied to any procedure, and uses a series of guide words to investigate process deviations.
This course can be run as a closed course at your facility, planned to support the objectives of your site Hazard and Operability studies, and delivered in liaison with other stakeholders ensuring personnel understand the fundamental roles within the process.
Our open courses are run within Real World Environment at the National Centre for Process and Manufacturing, this environment provides an ideal opportunity to work with others and explore best practice for Emergency Response.
Who is this course for?
Learners are drawn from a range of different groups who may lead or facilitate hazard studies, including, management, safety professionals, maintenance personnel and process operators.

The learner will be able to:
- Define and understand the tools and processes of hazard analysis.
- List the requirements and essential characteristics of the HAZOP study team.
- Understand the concept and requirements for correct HAZOP study management.
- Define and use the terms and processes required for effective HAZOP studies.
- Identify the lifecycle phases and how HAZOP studies can be utilised at each stage.
