The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF) will benefit learners by preparing them to deal with a range of emergency First Aid situations when they have a duty of care to look after staff and visitors, including infants and children.
Who is this course for?
Anyone who cares for infants and children, such as parents, guardians, grandparents or those who want to learn key paediatric First Aid skills as an important part of First Aid delivery in any working environment.

Prerequisites:
This course is geared towards learners who are over 14 and who are able to perform practical tasks on the floor. There are no other formal entry requirements but a minimum of Level 1 in literacy and numeracy will be helpful.
There are five mandatory assessments and one optional practical assessment, plus a theory test, for this qualification:
5 x Practical assessments which are observed by the trainer throughout the course.
❖ Infant CPR and safe use of an AED
❖ Child CPR and safe use of an AED
❖ Choking casualty
❖ Paediatric wounds, bleeding and shock
❖ Unconscious casualty
❖ Catastrophic bleeding (optional extra)
1 x Theory assessment (Multiple Choice Question Paper).
❖ 25 minutes allowed. The minimum pass mark is 11 out of 15.
Successful candidates will have an understanding of the role of the First Aider and be able to adminster safe, prompt, effective First Aid in emergency situations. Specifically, they will:
❖ Understand the role and responsibilities of a paediatric First Aider
❖ Be able to assess an emergency situation safely
❖ Be able to provide First Aid for an infant and a child who are unresponsive
❖ Be able to provide First Aid for an infant and a child who are choking
❖ Be able to provide First aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding
❖ Know how to provide First Aid to an infant or a child who is suffering from shock
❖ Know how to provide First Aid to an infant or a child with bites, stings and minor injuries
TRAINING FOR A LIFE-LONG CAREER
Learners may progress to the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid or the Qualsafe Emergency Paediatric First Aid course, which will aid career progression.
