The Health and Safety Executive has said major changes to the way it operates the COMAH regulations will have a positive impact on business.
Alf Williams told delegates at the annual Tank Storage Association conference that the review aimed to reduce regulatory burden whilst bolstering safety prevention and mitigation.
Mr Williams went on to acknowledge that, upon implementation, the regulatory changes could throw up “unintended consequences”.
Even so, he remained confident they would bring about sustainable safety for the future.
“I get the sense that it won’t fizzle away,” he said, stressing that reform remained “high” on the government’s agenda.
Mr Williams was speaking at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
