A) The Control of Major Accident Hazards – or COMAH – is a set of regulations aimed at reducing the risk to the public from Major Accident Hazard sites.
These sites store hazardous substances such as petrochemical and petroleum products.
COMAH came into force on 1st April 1999, with further revisions in 2005 which saw the implementation of specific EC directives known as the Seveso II Directive.
Theses regulations replaced CIMAH – Control of Industrial Major Accident Hazards – in 1984
