Processing good safety at CATCH

The Humber Major Hazards Group’s annual conference is underway at Stallingborough-based training facility, CATCH.

Seveso III, Process Safety & Continuous Improvement is the name of the event and it does pretty much what it says on the tin.

So far, a number of key industry figureheads have taken to the stage to thrash out the inner workings of process safety in the high hazard sectors.

Health and Safety Executive tackles Seveso

Headline speaker Christina Roberts, policy advisor at the Health and Safety Executive, provided delegates with a detailed breakdown of upcoming changes to COMAH which will be ushered in through the Seveso III directive.

Harmonising process safety

Under the extensive EU Directive, the Globally Harmonised System will be used in the classification of chemicals to determine whether they fall within the scope of the Directive.

As a result, there is the potential for sites to change their COMAH status – top tier, lower tier or non-COMAH – depending on the substances and quantities they hold.

The EU Directive is set to come into force across Member States by June 1st, 2015.
