Inadequate storage, management and training for hazardous chemicals has been revealed as a top 10 supply chain concern facing businesses in China.
Global supply chain experts Sedex, in partnership with leading risk analytics experts Maplecroft, audited 19,328 businesses in China.
The survey, Sedex Responsible Sourcing Insights Briefing, found that 55.7% of all issues raised pertained to health, safety and hygiene concerns.
4% of respondents voiced concerns over “inadequate” storage facilities, labelling, training and containment, including spill kits for hazardous chemicals or lapses in their usage.
Other top line trends in Chinese supply chains include:
- Increasing levels of concerns over pollution and corruption
- A belief that labour rights remain suppressed at all levels
- Weak enforcement of labour standards
- High accident rates in workplaces
- Burgeoning costs stimulating a culture of ‘corner cutting’
- A lethargic development of corporate social responsibility
