Firms from the construction industry and associated trades are being invited to give their verdict on a mock trialling involving a fictitious health and safety prosecution.
The event, which is to be held later this month, is being organised by the West Midlands Working Well Together group with assistance from the Health and Safety Executive, Birmingham Health, Safety and Environment Association and law firm, Pinsent Masons.
The fictional case will centre on a prosecution involving an employee of a decorating company who suffered serious injuries when falling from height during a refurbishment project.
HSE acting principal inspector, Amy Kalay, said: “Protecting the health and safety of employees is an essential part of risk management.
“It’ll be a real eye opener for those attending, giving a detailed insight into what happens when someone has to answer to the courts because a worker has been injured.”
The mock trial will be heard by a magistrate, with qualified legal professionals both prosecuting and defending the case.
Falls remain one of the biggest causes of fatal injury in Britain’s workplaces, accounting for more than half of construction workplace deaths.
How can I take part?
The free event is scheduled to take place at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park on Wednesday 17 September.
