HSE guidance on working with benzene: are you at risk?

The Health and Safety Executive has released updated guidance aimed at protecting people who work with benzene.

So what is benzene?

Benzene, a highly flammable liquid, occurs naturally in crude oil, natural gas and some ground waters.

Benzene can also be found in crude oil vapours.

Working with benzene can affect your health and the HSE’s updated leaflet lays down:

  • Possible health effects
  • Preventative measures an employer needs to take
  • The precautions workers should take
